Dubrovnik welcomes ‘Days of Taste’: a journey through tradition and gastronomic innovation

From 17 to 19 October 2025, the city of Dubrovnik hosted the event ‘Days of Taste: From Tradition to Contemporary Trends’, an initiative dedicated to food and wine organised by the Dubrovnik Development Agency (DURA).

The event offered a rich programme of events that combined the value of food as a cultural experience with its fundamental role in physical and mental well-being.

The event opened on Friday 17 October with the round table discussion ‘Food as Experience and Therapy’, which featured a discussion between expert gastronome Josip Žuvela, nutritionist Lucija Bagarić and paediatrician Zoran Krišto Legčević.

The opening day ended with an exclusive dinner at Villa Čingrija, prepared by Chef Damir Tomljanović.

Saturday and Sunday were characterised by a strong educational and social commitment:

  • Workshop for children: At the DEŠA headquarters (Lazareti), primary school pupils took part in the workshop ‘Traditional sweets adapted to modern nutrition’, learning how to reinterpret historical recipes in a healthy way.
  • Rural promotion: The weekend ended with dinners in the Dubrovnik hinterland, at the Laptalo Agritourism. The dishes were prepared by students from the Dubrovnik School of Tourism and Hospitality, under the guidance of mentor Mijo Marušić, offering future professionals in the sector an important practical showcase.

The “Days of Taste” initiative is an important part of the project, which aims to promote food and wine heritage in order to encourage sustainable and authentic tourism. Thanks to the collaboration between experts, educational institutions and local producers, the event demonstrated how culinary traditions can evolve to respond to contemporary trends without losing their identity.
