Third Training Module: Mastering Food Photography

Digital in the Kitchen was the focus of the Training for Trainers (Topic 3: Digitisation)marked the latest training appointment dedicated to teachers and trainers in the catering, gastronomy, and VET sectors under the Testeat project.

This third training session focused on a now-fundamental digital skill: Food Photography.

The course was conducted in two online sessions on November 13 and 20, providing teachers and trainers with key competencies to photograph dishes and beverages with professional results, learning to use a smartphone as a true creative tool for communicating gastronomy. The sessions were led by expert Giuliano Michelini.

Session 1: From souvenir to Storytelling

The first session, titled "Food Photography for Chefs and Barmen," explored the core principles of visual communication in food.

Focus: Understanding light, composition, and visual storytelling. The goal was to move participants from taking a 'souvenir photo' to a 'narrated photo,' using their smartphones as a creative tool. It was an intensive and practical session, designed to give trainers the right tools to pass on to their students in the classroom.

Session 2: Bringing the Image to Life

The second and final phase, held on November 20, focused on post-production skills.

Focus: The image comes to life: editing and visual style. Participants learned that taking a good photo is only half the job. This session taught them how to make the image shine, transforming a good shot into a professional and narrative image. The ultimate goal was to enhance the food's appeal without falsifying the reality of the dish.

The course, which was entirely online, equipped participants with modern, immediately applicable skills vital for digital communication in the hospitality sector. The recordings of the training sessions will soon be available on our channel.
